Hi There!
Welcome to session 15! My guest today is Jordan Sybrandt, who is in private practice as a therapist in the San Diego area. Jordan uses a solution-focused perspective to therapy and approaches his practice in this way. Listen and learn what techniques Jordan uses to help people find solutions!
Jordan says this quote from Aristotle has become a guiding force in his practice:
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”
How do Aristotle’s words apply to someone starting on their own private-practice journey?
- We may struggle, and try once or twice, but we must try REPEATEDLY!
- REPETITION leads you to become the master of your own craft.
- START! You can’t repeat what you haven’t started!
- Failure is the way to success.
Jordan adds the following tips that are full of practical advice:
- Don’t give up on yourself. You can take the risk and make your business work.
- Listen to successful mentors who have much more experience than you. (Jordan listens in the car!) “You don’t know what you don’t know!”
- Set your mind for success. Another favorite quote is from Jim Roan: “Your philosophy leads to your attitude; your attitude leads to your actions, and your actions lead to results.” Your mindset drives EVERYTHING!
- Don’t focus on problems, but view them as opportunities.
For anyone embarking on their own private practice journey, Jordan offers words of wisdom. Marketing matters much more than you might think. You can be good at therapy, but you have to be good at marketing your business. Building relationships is the key to reaching potential clients. Put yourself “out there” on YouTube channels and blogs. You must advertize and humanize. Overcome the fear, and focus on reaching the client. Remember, the biggest fear we all face is the fear of not being good enough.
Don’t miss the rest of my conversation with Jordan, including the Hot Couch round questions and answers. Whether you’re in private practice or involved in small business, his knowledge is invaluable.
