Session 195: Leadership and Private Practice

/p>

Overview

In today’s solo episode, I’m sharing a book that has stood out in my life and might be helpful to you. Reading books about leadership and business is a cost-effective way to expand my knowledge and improve myself. I’ve set monthly reading goals for myself, and my Audible subscription has been a huge help in reaching those goals. See the Resources section for a link to give Audible a try. This book that I’ve read several times and is the topic of today’s discussion is The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell.

What We’ll Learn

    • Why you’re probably a leader—even if you don’t know it!
    • How leadership skills and talents are required in numerous areas for a clinician
    • How I learned leadership as I built my STC team because I figured out that I can’t do it all alone
    • Why my ability to lead well is directly related to the success of my business
    • In Maxwell’s book, he outlines 21 things we must do well to lead effectively, and here are my top three favorites:
      • (#10) The Law of Connection
        • “Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand.” People have to buy into your vision to follow you. We show this connection in our relationships with colleagues, our work with clients, and how we set up our websites.
      • (#12) The Law of Empowerment
        • “Enlarging others makes you larger.” Only secure leaders know to give their power to others so that they can achieve more.
      • (#18) The Law of Sacrifice
        • “The heart of leadership is putting others before yourself.” Sacrifice should be where our hearts are as leaders.
      • Remember that leadership can be continuously developed over time with a commitment to learning and growing!
