Welcome!  My guest today is Ryan Maher, who is here to fill us on how Instagram can be beneficial to any small business entrepreneur.  Ryan teaches a four-hour online course made of small modules to show how to build a following on Instagram.

Ryan shares the following facts and tips about using Instagram:

  • Instagram is a social media platform based on images and short videos.  There are 300 million monthly active users!
  • Every business owner should be on Instagram because THAT’S WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE!  It’s an underutilized resource that offers 59% higher engagement than Facebook.
  • There is a specific terminology unique to Instagram.  Do you know the lingo?  Listen in to Ryan’s detailed explanation.
  • For someone in private practice or any other business, Ryan gives tips on adding value to your page.  He covers how to mix in personal info, use quotes to make your page worth following, and why you should post something “likable.”

“People decide in a millisecond whether to like or follow your page or not.”  You must grab their attention!

Ryan recommends three tools that he uses regularly to create a worthy Instagram page.  These tools use graphics and text enhancements to spice up your posts:

  1. Canva.com
  2. Phonto app
  3. WordSwag app

Ryan recommends that business owners follow Lewis Howes on Instagram.  Lewis is a lifestyle entrepreneur who does a great job of integrating personal and business together.  Lewis is an example of someone who uses quotes effectively.  Remember, it’s the message that matters in a quote, and not all the extra stuff.

Ryan also gives great tips on using hashtags effectively.  He teaches when to use local vs. national hashtags.  Each photo or video is allowed up to 30 hashtags; how many should you use?  He gives you the answer!  You do not want to miss his instructions that will improve your Instagram following by using his simple rules.  Can hashtags make a difference?  Ryan says YES—he met his wife on Instagram thanks to his hashtags!  Listen to hear the great story!

Ryan’s top tips for building your following on Instagram the fastest?  Follow other people, like other people’s photos, and make your page worth following.  Want to learn more?  Join us for this informative episode!
